Plastic Credits: A Lever for Plastic Circularity

Reducing the plastic footprint has become a concrete challenge for many companies. Beyond efforts to reduce plastic use and incorporate recycled materials into products, some organizations also want to support initiatives that directly contribute to improving plastic waste management.

Plastic credits fit within this approach. Certified under Verra’s Plastic Waste Reduction Standard, they represent one tonne of plastic waste collected from the environment and responsibly managed, or recycled beyond an established baseline rate.

These mechanisms support projects that increase plastic collection, sorting, and recycling, while helping to strengthen a more robust circular economy.

A first in Canada

Exxel Polymers is the first Canadian company able to issue Verra-certified plastic credits. This recognition builds on the expertise we have developed over the years in plastic recovery and transformation.

Our approach is based on a simple principle: giving end-of-life plastics new value by transforming them into reusable raw materials for industry.

Concretely, purchasing 1 plastic credit is equivalent to contributing to the recycling of 1,000 kg of plastic.

Circularity starts with the material

Plastic credits help support recovery and recycling initiatives. However, circularity truly takes shape when these materials are reintroduced into new products.

This is precisely where recycled plastics play a key role.

At Exxel Polymers, we develop and produce recycled plastic grades designed for industrial applications, enabling companies to integrate more recycled content into their products while maintaining the required performance.
